Kenya Launches Child-Friendly TB Medicine

We can win also in TB and I’m so excited
that I’ve lived to see this time come and we’re going to have a TB free
generation. It gives us really immense pride. As a country, fact is that we are doing
it for our children because we owe it to them. The moms in Kibera, because they’re very
busy, they don’t have sometimes time to come and report that the pill got lost
or maybe a child vomited, maybe that is this and this challenge. “I forgot to
administer the drug correctly”, so this new product is going to be of great help
to moms in Kibera because it is easy to give the child. It is easy to dissolve in
water; it is not bitter and therefore the challenges of vomiting will all be- they are ending now. In Kenya, as it is in many parts of the world, many children are missed. They go undiagnosed and they weren’t treated. The availability of new
medication is now an opportunity for all of us. Government TB programs, civil
society, international organization. To get the children who are, we thought, shouldn’t been missed. As mothers bring their children, those
who will come first, those will receive the medication. They will also
advocate for us in the village. They will encourage those who have children who have refused to bring their children that day in the hospital. There’s a new
drug that has come there which is working perfectly well. He was weak, but now he’s a little bit strong. He said he’d like to to be an
engineer- an engineer.
